Vacation Bible school scheduled

The town’s five churches will come together for a vacation Bible school Feb. 20 to 22 at the Whitehall United Methodist Church on Greenmount Cemetery Road.

“We’ve worked together before, and this is just an extension of that,” said UMC Pastor the Rev. Ginny Deyo, who noted the churches have worked together on summer Bible schools and on a Thanksgiving dinner.

The event will start with a sledding and sliding party for the entire community from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 20. The party will include free hot dogs and beverages and will be for youths and their families.

The school will continue from 6 to 8 p.m., Feb. 21 and 22. There will be Bible classes, arts and crafts, a movie and refreshments.

Churches involved include the UMC, First Baptist Church, Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Trinity Episcopal and First Presbyterian.

For further information, contact one’s church or the UMC at 499-0851.

In other church-related news, Deyo said her church still has coats, hats and mittens available for local families. These were all donated by people last year.

People can call the church for more information. She said the church will hold a rummage sale of the remaining donated material in March.

Several local churches will be celebrating “Souper Bowl Sunday” on Feb. 6 and will take up collections for the local food pantry.
