Ruth P. Hughes, 71, went peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Whitehall on May 5, 1939, the daughter of the late Charles and Pauline Peer of Whitehall. She graduated from Whitehall High School.
She enjoyed her pets, and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her many neighbors on Maple Street. Ruth was always there to support her family as well as their friends, offering kind and loving support.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil Hughes Sr., son Donald C. Lindsay, and three brothers, John, Charles, and George Peer.
She is survived by her six children, Ronald Lindsay of Arlington, Vt., Sherri and her husband, Russell Brown, of Whitehall, Karen and her husband, Randy Davis, of Fairbanks, Alaska, Nancy Hughes of Whitehall, Neil Hughes and his wife, Nicole, of Whitehall, and Christopher Hughes of Whitehall. Ruth also leaves behind four grandchildren, Lindsay Monty, Heath Ingleston, Brandon and Jayden Hughes.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
