May Cooper, 74

May Alice (Jones) Cooper passed away on Jan. 3, 2011, at the Indian River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

May was born on Nov. 1, 1936, in Weld, Maine, the daughter of Alton and Alice (York) Jones.

May loved people; helping them was second nature to her. She was an outreach worker for Bennington and Rutland counties for many years and loved her job. May was a creative woman, who enjoyed writing poetry, painting, and drawing. She shared her love and talent for each with friends and family.

Family was the center of May’s life. Spending time with those she loved was her greatest joy. After moving to Vermont, she treasured going home to Maine to visit her sisters, brothers, and their families. Since she was unable to travel to Maine in recent years, May enjoyed day trips with her husband throughout the surrounding area. They would stop for french fries or ice cream and stop by their home to see her cat.

Everyone will miss May’s smile, which would light up her whole face. The girls at the nursing home loved to see her smile.

May was predeceased be her son, Scott, and siblings Maude, Ella, Nellie and Frank.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Fred G. Cooper II; and her children, Paula (Buzzell) Towne and husband Ken of Granville, Patty (Buzzell) Lucey and husband Tom of Marysville, Calif., and Fred G. Cooper III of Woolwich, Maine. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sabrina (Burke) McDounough, Sara (Burke) Deering, Carmen Cooper and Kimberly Lucey as well as great-grandchildren Paul Owen Deering and Beatrice May Deering.

A family service will be held out of state. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, N.Y. 10018.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville.
