Parents and community members are invited to come to Granville High School on Dec. 7 for an educational forum by the chairman of the organization S.A.D.D.

The 6:30 p.m. program will feature Stephen Wallace, youth advocate and chairman of the organization now known as Students Against Destructive Decisions.

“We think it’s going to be a good program. We’re hoping to see a lot of people here,” local chapter organizer teacher Sara Collins said.

Collins said invitations were going out to schools around the region for the date, one of about 20 Wallace makes each year.

The community is welcome to attend the event, which will be held in the high school auditorium.

The program takes approximately one hour, organizers said.

The forum, known as the Family Focus Program, is a part of the Liberty Mutual- sponsored SADD Speaker Series. Led by Wallace, the series looks at methods for opening lines of communication between parents and their children on issues ranging from drugs and alcohol to safe driving focusing on parent-child communication.

Wallace is a former school psychologist and adolescent counselor and author of the book “Reality Gap: Alcohol, Drugs, and Sex – What Parents Don’t know and Teens Aren’t Telling.”

Collins said Wallace mixes stories and humor and brings the audience into the program to help shed light on the numerous difficult issues facing teens today.

As the new name for the organization implies, the focus is no longer strictly drunk driving but the many potentially costly “destructive decisions” teens could make as they move through their high school years.
