The post-season honors have started to roll in for the Whitehall varsity sports programs, led by the Section II/Class D offensive player of the year in varsity football and a number of other awards for members of both the football and girls soccer programs.

 

Football

Sophomore tailback Josh Hoagland was named the Class D offensive player of the year by the coaches in the conference for the 2010 season. The sophomore burst onto the scene this year with 1,333 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground. Hoagland combined for more than 1,500-yards in total offense with 25 touchdowns for the Railroaders, who went 5-3 on the season en route to an appearance in the sectional semifinals.

Throughout the year, Hoagland commented on the work of his offensive line in making holes for him to run through. Coaches in the conference agreed with him, naming two members of the offensive line, junior Zach Diekel and senior Jordan LaCroix, to the all star offensive line.

On the defensive side of the ball, seniors Matt Oliver and AJ Ricketts were named to the all star defensive line. Oliver, who recorded double-digit tackles-for-loss while forcing three fumbles and recovering one, while Ricketts had seven tackles-for-loss and forced two fumbles while recovering one in the Section II semifinals.

Senior Jake Evans was named to the first team as a linebacker, as he recorded a forced fumble, fumble recovery and interception on the season. His fumble recovery against Fort Edward led to a 60-yard touchdown return that gave the Railroaders the momentum back in a 33-20 win.

Also receiving mention as honorable mention all stars were junior fullback/linebacker Evan McLaughlin, senior receiver/defensive back Brice Cook and junior quarterback/defensive back Codie Bascue.

 

Girls soccer

Whitehall senior midfielder Brianna Cook was named to the Adirondack League first team for the 2010 season. Cook anchored and provided leadership in the Railroaders midfield and scored the final goal of the 2010 season in the first round of the Class C playoffs.

Senior defender Kaitlyn Fiorini was named to the second team. Fiorini anchored the defense as the sweeper for the squad, who posted their first shutout of the season against Salem in the qualifying round of the sectionals.

Honorable mention players named included senior defender/midfielder Kelsie Benjamin, senior striker Paige Mason, senior striker/midfielder Aerial Ramey and senior goalkeeper Katie Paddock.
