Mary L. Wood

Mary L. Wood, 99, formerly of Park Avenue, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 at the Indian River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Granville following a short illness, with her granddaughter, Debbi Pawson, by her side.

 

Born on June 5, 1909 in Port Henry, she is the daughter of the late John A. and Mary L. (Kurtz) Yell.

 

She is a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall and a member of the Catholic Daughters.

 

In her early years, she was employed at the Champlain Spinners in Whitehall and retired from C. R. Bard Company in Glens Falls. Mary was a very caring person and following her retirement, spent many countless hours transporting friends to doctor appointments, shopping and whatever transportation they needed.

 

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by two husbands, Guy Horton and Chester Alan Wood; four brothers, John Yell, Amos Yell, Louis Yell and Edward Yell; one sister, Christina McNamara and one son, Guy Horton, Jr.

 

She is survived by one daughter, Rita Foy and her husband, Joseph of Corinth; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

 

A Memorial Mass was conducted on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall with Rev. Michael Flannery, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Whitehall.

 

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a donation in Mary’s name to the Activity Fund at the Indian River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 17 Madison Street, Granville, NY 12832.
