Oscar E. (Pete) Lafayette, 88,

Passed away, surrounded by his family, at the Mountain View Center in Rutland, Vermont on November 12, 2008.

 He was born on Main Street, Whitehall, on October 1, 1920 the son of Ernest and Martha (Parrott) Lafayette.

He was a veteran of WWII having served as a PFC with the 9th US Army Air Force in Europe.  He was employed by the Delaware & Hudson Railroad as a trainman for 42 years.  He was a member of the United Transportation Union, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 38.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Cecilia (Duffy) Lafayette, one son, Richard Lafayette, his sister, Myrtle Holcomb and one son-in-law, Harold Inglee.

Affectionately known as "Daddy Pete" by his family and close friends, he

survived by one son, James F. Lafayette and his wife, Maureen of Whitehall; two daughters, Mary Jean Inglee of Rutland, VT and Maura Ann Lafayette of Pawlet, Vt.; eleven grandchildren, Rhonda Lator of Goodyear, AZ, Sandra Lavin and her husband, Thomas of Whitehall, Shannon Foster and her husband, Darren of Rutland, VT, Penny Inglee and her companion, Scott Herding of Proctor, VT, Kathleen Brooks of Gansevoort, Jean Paul Lafayette of N. Charleston, SC, James P. Lafayette of Hudson Falls,  Rachel Householder of Whitehall, James P. Brooks of Whitehall, Daniel R. Lafayette and his companion, Renee Neddo of Whitehall, and Andrew Black of Goodyear, AZ and 13 great grandchildren.

Family and friends may call at the Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams Street, Whitehall, New York on Monday, November 17, 2008 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.  American Legion Wake Service followed by prayer service, conducted by Rev. Fr. Michael Flannery, Pastor of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, will take place at 3:00 PM.

Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Whitehall.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Mountain View Center in Rutland, VT for their loving care and many acts of kindness to both us and our father.
